Our Organization

The STEM Embassy is a place of knowledge and resources which aims to assist our youth on the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao in their self-discovery and development in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) on the islands. We organize events, spread STEM knowledge, and help create connections between professionals and students in STEM from the ABC Islands.

Meet the Team

Our team consists of local students and young professionals with a passion for STEM. We are an all-islander team with the same ambitions to give back to the ABC islands. Together we cover the fields of biology, electrical and aerospace engineering, physics, technology design, and mathematics. We are located in the USA, Switzerland, and the Netherlands which allows us to provide a diverse perspective. 

  • Laura Croes

    PRESIDENT

    Laura grew up in Aruba and received her BSc in Electrical Engineering from TU Delft. Laura lead the battery engineering team of Delft Hyperloop in 2019 and worked as an Electrical Engineer at the Boring Company in Los Angeles in 2020. Laura is currently pursuing her MSc in Electronics and Photonics at ETH Zurich.

  • Jillian Oduber

    OPERATIONS MANAGER

    Originally from Aruba, Jillian moved to the Netherlands in 2016 to study Aerospace Engineering. Since then her focus has shifted towards the ‘space’ part, as she’s currently pursuing a Master’s in Space Flight.

  • Gianni Croes

    TREASURER

    Gianni is from Aruba and now lives in Amsterdam after a great student time in Rotterdam where he studied Economics and Supply Chain Management. Currently, Gianni is doing a Management Traineeship at Heineken Netherlands Supply. As treasurer, his focus will be ensuring financial stability of TSE and setting up sponsorship agreements.

  • LeAnn Tromp

    EDUCATION MANAGER

    LeAnn is very passionate about education and thinks it is important to educate the future generation about the STEM field. LeAnn is originally from Aruba but is currently a student-teacher at a high school in Gouda and in her third year of Mathematics Education at Hogeschool Utrecht.

  • Michelle Mendez Fonseca

    PR MANAGER

    Michelle was born and raised in Aruba but grew up in an Latino household. When she was 17, she moved to The Netherlands to do her BSc in Chemistry at Inholland University of Applied Science in Amsterdam. In 2021, she moved to Maastricht to do her graduation internship at a research institute if Maastricht University, where she designed and synthesised new molecules using chemistry. She is currently pursueing her MSc in Biobased Materials at Maastricht University.

  • Dianthy Kock

    MEDIA MANAGER

    Dianthy was born and raised in Aruba and obtained her BSc in Communication & Multimedia Design at Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Dianthy is specialized in UX/UI design and her current focus is on web/app design. Aside from digital design, she also enjoys designing brand identities.

  • Lau Garcia-Dieguez

    EDUCATION TEAM MEMBER

    Lau is from Curaçao and Spain, and graduated with a Master in Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2022. Lau currently works at the University of Pittsburgh doing research on CAR T-cell immunotherapy.

We’re back! In 2023, we returned to Aruba with an exciting lineup of fresh and diverse STEM materials and immersive activities for the youth during the summer.

In 2022, we hosted our first KTBS event in Aruba, bringing together 100 enthusiastic young participants for a two-days adventure filled with fun and interactive learning!
